Library Director

The Jericho Town Library is seeking a Library Director responsible for the administration, supervision, and coordination of all library activities; establishing the library as an integral part of the community; and carrying out the Policies adopted by the Library Board of Trustees and the Town of Jericho. This includes ensuring quality patron services; overseeing, supporting, and developing staff; managing operations within the annual budget; coordinating community outreach efforts; and developing and managing the library’s print, digital, and non-traditional collections.


The Director serves as the public face of the library and regularly interacts with various members of the
public, other municipal employees, town boards and committees, the media, and other entities.
This position is employed by the Town of Jericho at $29.00 per hour for 38 hours per week with benefits and is subject to the Town of Jericho personnel rules and policies.


Staff the library during open hours, which are: Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Friday: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM, and Saturday: 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Substitute Library Assistant ($15/hour, on-call, no guaranteed hours)

Jericho Town Library is excited to announce an opportunity to join our small team as a Substitute Library Assistant. This is an on-call, non-benefitted position with no guaranteed hours. 

Pay is $15/hour. 

The Substitute Library Assistant will provide coverage during librarian and assistant library technician absences, including both scheduled time off and occasional short-notice shifts. The successful candidate will often be the only staff member on site. Training will be provided. 

Job Responsibilities 

● Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors 

● Assist patrons in locating and utilizing library resources 

● Check materials in and out using the library circulation system 

● Answer basic questions about library services and technology 

● Shelve and organize library materials 

● Open and close the library as assigned 

● Perform light clerical and organizational tasks 

Qualifications 

● Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technologies 

● Experience with or willingness to learn to use library software 

● Strong communication and customer service skills 

● Ability to work independently 

● Comfortable working with children, families, and the general public 

● Flexible availability, including occasional short-notice coverage

Accessibility note: JTL has served our community for more than a century, and our building is almost 200 years old. Please be advised that our historic building is not yet ADA compliant. We are working hard on an accessibility project to make sure that all members of the community can access our space, but the building is currently only accessible via staircase.
